SKIN CARE INFORMATIONMake-up

Did you know that women who use make-up on a daily basis can absorb up to five pounds of chemicals into their bodies each year? Many women use more than twenty different beauty products a day and the effects of these multiple combinations of chemicals are largely unknown. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health stated nearly 900 of the chemicals used in cosmetics are toxic.

And did you know that putting chemicals on your skin is actually worse than ingesting them? When you eat something the enzymes in your saliva and stomach help break it down and flush it out of your body. However, when you put chemicals on your skin, it is absorbed straight into your blood stream without filtering of any kind, so there is no protection against toxins. The five pounds of toxic chemicals per year you may be absorbing from the use of toiletries and beauty products are largely going directly to your delicate organs and muscle tissue. Some of the compounds present in make-up have been linked to side effects ranging from skin irritation to cancer.

For example, one class of cosmetic chemicals commonly used in conventional products is parabens. Traces of parabens have been consistently found in breast tumor samples. Parabens, which may be listed on the label as methyl paraben, ethyl paraben, propyl paraben, butyl paraben, isobutyl paraben or E216, have shown particularly troubling links to cancer.
Another chemical, sodium lauryl sulfate, has been known to cause skin irritation.

This is one reason why Franca Organics lists each ingredient for all of our products in standard scientific nomenclature and in plain English on the product back panel, on the outer box, and in detail on our website. Every woman who uses Franca Organics can feel confident about what she is putting onto her skin and into her body.

What about Organic Vs Synthetic?

What are the differences between synthetic and naturally-occurring substances? Scientists can make seawater with exactly the same chemical structure as natural seawater, but when a salt-water fish is placed in this synthetic environment, the fish dies. Only nature can provide us with the efficiency to sustain and nurture life.

Naturally derived vitamins, minerals and enzymes work closely together as co-factors for each other's effectiveness. If one part is missing, or is fractionated, or in the incorrect form or amount, entire chains of metabolic processes cannot proceed normally.

Mainstream marketing of synthetically derived cosmetics has created the myth that we can benefit from using fractionated chemical creations. Nothing could be further from the truth. Synthetic substitutes can have very serious toxic effects. The most complete nutrient, vitamin and mineral elements are an absolute necessity for aging skin to look its healthiest.

Franca Organics face care products contain the finest naturally occurring and organic ingredients available.

Random Notes on Skin Care

Always purchase your cosmetics, sunscreens or skin care products from reputable retailers you know and trust.
Never share cosmetics.

Products dispensed from tubes or pumps are a more hygienic choice and have less oxygen exposure than products sold in jars. Dipping your fingers into the product in a jar increases the risk of contamination at a microbial level. Additionally, oils in skin care products breakdown rapidly when exposed to oxygen; manufacturers offset this degenerative process by increasing the concentration of chemical preservatives in products sold in jars.

Never dilute your products unless specified by the manufacturer. Attempting to reconstitute something that has dried will reduce the concentration of preservatives in the product reducing their effectiveness to kill microbes.

Always store cosmetics and skin care products in a cool dry place with the lid on.
